You don’t make a photograph just with a camera.
You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen,
the books you have read,
the music you have heard,
the people you have loved.
A house remains in our soul, with its unique scents, sounds, spaces through which we love moving, corners where memories accumulate. A city to discover becomes like that house. Just a little bit bigger…
“Where have I been all this time?”
But time is racing on and he fears it will not be enough.
Immersed in his thoughts he doesn’t even realize that he’s reached Via della Luna and is looking out over a wall admiring the contorted play of stairs whose white treads remind him of piano keys.
Indeed, what he is experiencing now seems to be a soothing music.
Instinctively he turns towards Corso Vannucci searching out echoes of jazz tunes... But he doesn’t continue directly upwards and changes direction: Via dell’Orso climbs back up the hill gently, its view pleasing to the eye.
Gianluca Mencacci è nato nel 1968, nella “sua” Perugia. Da sempre appassionato di fotografia, dopo aver scritto tre romanzi, Buio, Amici e Radici dal Passato, torna al vecchio amore per le immagini. E unisce le due passioni per realizzare un nuovo libro, che racconta alla sua maniera la città dove vive.
Gianluca Mencacci was born in 1968 in “his” Perugia. An ardent photographer, after having published three novels, Buio, Amici and Radici dal Passato, he has returned to his love for images. This new book brings together his two passions revealing his personal vision of the city where he lives.
